OCEAN OPTICS LAUNCHES FULLY INTEGRATED LED MEASUREMENT SYSTEM FOR TRACKING ABSOLUTE SPECTRAL INTENSITY
Dunedin, Fla., August 2000 -- Ocean Optics introduces a cost-effective, fully integrated LED Measurement System that configures its popular miniature fiber optic spectrometers into highly accurate spectroradiometers for precisely measuring absolute spectral intensity and color parameters of LEDs. In addition to a miniature fiber optic spectrometer and operating software, the system includes three key components: an integrating sphere built to collect light from LEDs, a NIST-traceable LED power supply that allows users to adjust and display drive current and a NIST-traceable light source for calibrating the spectral response of a radiometric system.
The LED Measurement System features the following innovations:
l Absolute spectral intensity measurement – Measures absolute spectral intensity
from 300-1050 nm. Data can be calculated in watts, joules, lumens or candela.
l Spectral and color measurement – Calculates color space values (X, Y, Z and
L*, a*, b*), dominant wavelength, wavelength purity, peak wavelength, centroid
and FWHM.
l Versatile format/package accommodation – Accepts LEDs 0.375" diameter
or smaller with 0.1" lead spacing.
As part of the LED Measurement System, the compact, lightweight FOIS-1 Fiber Optic Integrating Sphere, featuring a 1.5" Spectralon sphere encased in aluminum housing, collects light and funnels it to an optical fiber to provide absolute spectral intensity values of LEDs. The unit’s 0.375" input port accepts light energy from 200-1100 nm. The easily operated unit allows users to simply connect an optical read fiber from the FOIS-1 SMA-terminated output port to the spectrometer’s SMA connector. The emission source is then inserted into the FOIS-1 0.375" input port.
Users can increase or decrease LED intensity with the LED-PS Power Supply’s NIST-traceable adjustable drive current. Used in conjunction with the FOIS-1 Fiber Optic Integrating Sphere, the LED-PS holds the LED and displays the drive current.
The compact LS-1-CAL-INT Calibrated Tungsten Light Source calibrates the spectral response of a radiometric system that uses the FOIS-1 as the sampling optic. The NIST-traceable light source provides known absolute intensity values at multiple wavelengths, with measurements from 300-1050 nm.
The system interfaces PCs with USB, ISA, PCMCIA, and serial port interfaces. Operating software allows users to easily acquire, manipulate and manage data. Efficient acquisition speed allows for more data acquisition in less time.
